AR Floorplans

What equipment do I need to capture AR floorplans on site?

AR floorplan capture in SiteSurvey requires an iOS or Android device. A LiDAR-enabled iPhone or iPad Pro gives the best accuracy, but is not mandatory.

To capture AR floorplans with SiteSurvey you need a compatible iOS or Android smartphone or tablet. No additional hardware is required to get started. The SiteSurvey app is available from the App Store and Google Play, and AR capture is included as part of the standard platform.

For the best accuracy and performance, a LiDAR-equipped device is recommended. Apple devices with LiDAR include the iPhone 12 Pro and later Pro models, and the iPad Pro from 2020 onwards. These devices use a dedicated depth sensor to produce more accurate spatial measurements, particularly in larger spaces or rooms with complex geometry.

Devices without LiDAR can still capture AR floorplans using the camera-based ARKit (iOS) or ARCore (Android) frameworks. Accuracy is slightly lower than LiDAR-assisted capture, but results are suitable for most schematic survey and space assessment purposes. For teams that already have a mixed device fleet, both device types can be used alongside each other.

No specialist survey equipment such as a total station, laser scanner, or external sensor array is needed. A standard issue company iPhone or iPad is sufficient for the majority of survey applications. If your team uses laser distance measurers for critical dimension checks, these can be used to add manual overrides to specific walls within the SiteSurvey AR capture workflow.
